Get Organized, Get Clean, Get Disinfected!
While the bathroom is our place to get clean and refresh, it can easily become the dirtiest room in your home. It can be hard to fully relax and reset when the space around you is overwhelming and not fully clean. A fresh and orderly restroom will not only make you feel better every day, it’s also sure to impress your houseguests.
Whether downright dirty, or just unorganized, we are here to help you take time to clean your “throne” room. So, roll up your sleeves, and let's get to it!
Before we can tackle any grimy surfaces, we need to clear them off! Grab a trash bag and tackle one section at a time to avoid getting overwhelmed! Look through your products and accessories and determine what you need and what can be tossed. This is sure to free up some space and force you to get rid of any expired products that may not be good for you.
Head to the store and purchase some drawer or counter organizers to keep things neat and in their place from now on.
Now that you’ve narrowed down your products to what is necessary, it’s time for the cleaning to begin.
With constant hand washing, skincare routines, and tooth brushing, your countertop sees a lot of messy splatter! Try to make it a habit to wipe down the counter any time you make a mess to avoid build-up and bigger messes.
The nice thing about bathroom counter cleaning is that it shouldn’t take much to pull up any spots. Soap and warm water work just fine, but if you want to go a little deeper, mix vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
If you see a bit more staining, maybe from a toddler-getting-into-the-makeup scenario, add a little baking soda to your solution to lift it out.
Don’t forget the mirror too!
Grocery store shelves are stuffed with cleaners advertising to completely flush out any clog in your drains. While grabbing one on a busy errand-filled Saturday is convenient, we do not recommend these for drain cleaning as they do more damage than good to your pipes over time.
Instead, flush drains with boiling water, then take out your trusty vinegar and baking soda and pour them down the drain. Finally, flush again with boiling water.
If you have a particularly stubborn and slow drain, you can try snaking it yourself, or give Beemer Plumbing, LLC a call for a professional drain cleaning.
Shower & Tub
Stains can easily find their way onto your bathtub and shower walls. Take an all-purpose cleaner and spray down the area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before grabbing your scrub brush or sponge and get scrubbing!
Don’t forget to hit these often overlooked spots:
- Showerhead/Tub spout
- Shower caddies
- Underneath shampoo/product bottles
- Tile grout and caulk
When it comes to cleaning the toilet, some of our best advice is to take your time. We know it's tempting to add a self-cleaning device, but these items can damage the inside of your toilet bowl over time.
Apply toilet bowl cleaner and allow it to sit. While it’s working it’s magic, take your all purpose cleaner to the rest of the commode. We cannot stress this enough: CLEAN. ALL. OF. IT!
Be sure to get the tank, the seat, the lid, the base, and especially the flusher. Then grab your toilet brush and give the bowl a good scrub.
Finish it up with a disinfectant spray to get rid of unwanted germs and bacteria.
Finish up your bathroom cleaning with the floor! Wash your bathroom rugs as often as possible to avoid mildew growth, and take a mop to the floor to make it shine again.
Take Your Time
We know tackling a whole bathroom at once is intimidating, so don’t feel pressured to do it all in one day. Make a commitment to clean at least one item every day and pretty soon, you’ll have a sparkling room once more!
